What Hoarding Isn’t


Members of Bringing Hoarders Together (BHT) were asked the question, what are some common misconceptions about hoarding? These were their answers:

  • Just Clutter

  • Being dirty and lazy

  • Hoarding isn’t changed by “forcing” us to change

  • Hoarding isn’t solved by throwing everything out and starting again

  • Hoarding is not just about acquiring rubbish

  • Hoarding is not always dirty and smelly

  • Hoarding is not always disorganised

  • It’s not what you see on TV

  • Hoarding is not always a form of OCD

  • Letter when alone – you need a support network and peer groups
