Prima Group’s David Curtis Competing at the Invictus Games
We're thrilled to introduce David Curtis as a new member of the Prima Group team. Dave has joined us as the Community Cohesion Officer, working across all our communities, utilising his experience and connections. His role involves guiding our tenants towards specialised support services from various organisations, fostering growth - individually and within our neighbourhoods.
A former soldier of the British Army, Dave's story is a remarkable one as he gears up to compete in the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf from September 9th to 16th, participating in both cycling and athletics alongside serving as Vice Captain for Team UK.
Dave's events will be available to watch on the BBC red button on 10th, 11th and 15th September, but if you can't catch it live, there will be a highlights show on the One Show each evening of the games.
Dave's journey began with an injury during his deployment to Afghanistan in August 2009 when his NATO convoy was struck by a Taliban suicide car bomber in Kabul; a blast that changed his life forever. This tragedy claimed lives, injured many and left lasting scars. Dave's right shoulder was severely wounded, necessitating seven surgeries, the ligaments on his left hand were snapped, and he suffered two broken backbones. Alongside physical pain, Dave faced mental battles and was diagnosed with PTSD. Following a desk job stint in the welfare section, Dave's military journey ended in 2013 with a medical discharge.
Now, Dave faces another challenge - the Invictus Games. Beyond personal ambition, he dedicates his participation to lost comrades and his young daughter, Bella. He aims to inspire others and show them that recovery is possible no matter how difficult the path may seem. Dave's story is one of resilience, and his message echoes loud: It's never too late to rise and reclaim your life.
Prima Group is proud to have Dave on board, and we invite everyone to rally behind him in his journey to the Invictus Games. Let's send our best wishes as he embarks on this inspiring adventure, aiming not just for a medal - but to inspire us all with his incredible spirit.
