HiveOutside Programme Expands to Leasowe

A Wirral community housing specialist is teaming up with Wirral’s youth zone – to support young people out and about in Leasowe.

Prima Group has joined forces with The Hive Youth Zone to engage young people with positive activities and things to do on the streets in Leasowe – helping to create a safe environment and new opportunities for local young people.

The HiveOutside programme – which has already worked with young people in a previous programme in Seacombe and currently runs in Birkenhead’s North End – hopes to engage more than 1,500 young people over the next year through a range of activities on two nights every week.

The programme will include local family and community events, street-based sports, food and wellbeing activities and bridging young people into The Hive’s projects to build skills in areas such as employability and decision-making.

Prima Group’s CEO, John Ghader, said: "We are incredibly proud to fund the HiveOutside programme's expansion into Leasowe. At Prima Group, we understand the importance of providing young people with safe spaces and giving them opportunities to thrive. By partnering with The Hive, we are investing in the future of Leasowe’s youth, helping them build skills, gain confidence, and engage positively with their community. We’re also looking forward to working with other local activity providers in the area, including Wirral Development Trust and The Addy. This initiative reflects our commitment to making a difference in the areas we serve, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of young people in Leasowe.”

The Hive’s CEO, Jayne Wilson, said: “Whilst The Hive’s incredible building in Birkenhead is a massive pull for young people with its climbing wall, rooftop pitch and skate park, not all young people can get here. That’s why our HiveOutside programme is so important, meeting young people where they are in different places across the Wirral and using our unique approach to youth work to create the space - through all sorts of fun activities – for conversations with young people about everything from social inclusion to job readiness and healthy relationships. We're delighted that Prima Group’s incredible funding has made it possible for us to expand our regular programme to Leasowe, building on our established relationships with families in the area.”

Detached and outreach youth work (youth work which is out and about, rather than based in one specific building) is about developing effective relationships and trust with young people and families through regular contact wherever they are, ultimately helping young people to make informed choices, expand their horizons and explore their full potential.

A family who previously worked with HiveOutside in Seacombe said: “The Hive team has become more than just a support system for our family. From the beginning, they have been committed to turning up twice a week while showing genuine concern. Our children are accepted and never judged, and the activities that they continue to run weekly have given them all something to look forward to.”

Prima Group's properties in Leasowe are part of an estate with a real community spirit and a reputation for community action and self-help, offering local volunteering opportunities for residents.

The HiveOutside team will be in Leasowe on Thursdays and Fridays each week.
